Peggy Olson, along with the other secretaries were used to test the lipsticks of Belle Jolie. At the end of the testing, Peggy called a trashcan full of blotted tissues a "basket of kisses." The copywriters were so impressed with this line they decided to have her come up with some copy for the campaign. ("Babylon")
When Peggy tells Pete she's writing copy for the Belle Jolie lipstick account, he offers to take a look at it once she's finished. ("Red in the Face")
Freddy Rumsen presented the ad campaign for Belle Jolie: "Mark Your Man," but Hugh Brody isn't satisfied. Frustrated, Don states, "Every woman wants choices, but in the end, none wants to be one in a box of a hundred. You are giving every girl who wears your lipstick the gift of total ownership." With that, Hugh asks Don to sit back down. ("The Hobo Code")
Peggy mentions to her date, Carl Winter, that her Belle Jolie copy will appear in some high-fashion magazines, though Carl remains unimpressed stating that advertising is simply a lot of people screaming at you from the walls and television. ("Indian Summer")
Months later, Harry attempts to pitch "The Defenders" to a representative of Belle Jolie lipstick. The client declines because that particular episode of the show is about abortion, a topic that is far too controversial for them. ("The Benefactor")
